First Clearing
We begin week 2 of the readings and start to think about practices that will help clear some space. Sarah alludes to an appendix of lenten practices if you have a hard time coming up with some on your own. I'm listing her ideas from the appendix, since those of you with photocopies don't have that. Also, the books should hopefully be in by the end of the week if you are waiting on one.
Lenten Practices
Lenten Practices
- Daily prayer/meditation time
- Media fast - exa. - choose not to watch t.v. during certain hours of the night
- Meditative walks
- Art - engage in a creative activity
- Journaling
- Community activities
- Service
What other ideas do you have? Please post them as a way of offering more ideas for everyone else!

I enjoyed seeing this list, because I didn't set any "practice" or "fast" into my Lent because it just sets me up for failure... But it just happened to coincide with a number of things... I decided to journal because of the book, and that helps me organize some thoughts from these blogs and the book and other messages from the Lord during my silent times... Also, adding the Bible reading (which worked out great because i have the NT on CD!) ... then the creative part, which I had never thought of... I just happened to also be practicing some art this month during my break from pottery, and Tammy Nara really helped inspire me at the women's retreat! I need to be reminded now and then that creativity is from God, and to not practice it (in my life, anyway) is denying a part of myself that He wants to work through...
I'll add one thought, and that is to practice sharing spiritual growth and struggles with the family of God... The women's retreat gave us marvelous opportunities to do that, and it has added just that extra dimension to Lent this year, also! Thanks to the women of Centennial for your fellowship and for sharing your dreams with me this weekend... We will all be enriched because of it!
Knowing my wild beast was a difficult task. To find 10-15 mintues a day was my wilderness. But as each day past I made myself sit in quiet and find that my day is not complete without the quiet time to listen to what God is trying to tell me and lead me to. To open ones self and truly let God in is scary at best but most rewarding. As this second week begins I truly look forward to where my time with God will take me and how will it rend my heart.
Two suggestions for other activities during Lent are:
1. Memorize the order of the Book of the Bible.
2. Memorize several verses to one of your favorite hymns.
These are two mental exercises to stay spiritually focused.
